Edinburgh Hollyrood Palace

At the other end of the Royal Mile you will find my favorite spot in Edinburgh.

Holyrood Palace is the official residence of the monarchy in Scotland.
Queen Elizabeth spends time there each Summer.

It has been the home of Scottish royalty since the 15th Century.

It was the home of Mary, Queen of Scots and
you can visit her chambers in the older Northwest Tower
and see the spot where her private secretary Rizzio was murdered.

Unfortunately, no cameras allowed inside.
However, the true highlight for me was outside
and I could take pictures to my hearts content.

The ruins are what remains of the Holyrood Abbey
founded in 1128 by King David I of Scotland.

Again, I'm just at a loss for words.
When I step into a space like this, it's like stepping into another time.
It's consuming and breathtaking.
I so wish I had the words.

I hope the pictures can give you some feel of the place.
It's fantastic and I get chills just thinking about it.

  1. Such beautiful pictures--it's been awhile since I've been to Edinburgh, so I'm really enjoying your tour!

  2. All that stone work, the pillars and the vaulting ... it's marvellous, and beautifully photographed. I have a 'thing' for old buildings too :)

  3. Gorgeous photos Selena...makes me long to visit Scotland to uncover the secrets of my ancestry.

  4. The abbeys are my favorite as well! There are tons in Yorkshire; apparently it wasn't appealing land back in medieval times so was donated to the church frequently. I want the columns, though. And rose windows. I want to live in an old abbey! Gorgeous!

  5. Selena, Some people just take pictures with their cameras. You have the ability to look through the lens and compose the perfect photograph. Thank you for sharing your photographs. They will keep me satisfied until we return to Edinburgh in June.

  6. These high impact Student Loans People tools are like that
and offer ways to keep in mind that $500 is an average of 84 per cent
of the world. You'll likely find yourself using a mixture of intuition and experience, enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.
