Melia de Mar Majorca

The hotel that we chose for our weekend in Majorca was the three-star MeliĆ” de Mar, an adults only hotel in Illetas.  They are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year and it was the perfect location for our sunshine getaway.

Melia de Mar Majorca

The hotel is right on the water.  It’s surrounded by a rocky outcrop, but there is a little cove to swim in and a small beach just around the corner.  For the big white beaches of Majorca you’ll have to venture out by taxi, but we were more than happy to spend our time relaxing by the pool.

All of the rooms in the hotel face the ocean and have balconies.  You just can’t beat the views from high up.  Our room had a separate living room and a ton of space.  The massive, cushy bed faced the windows perfectly and the two large balconies were used for several naps.

Our upgrade to The Level gave so many wonderful perks, included access to their exclusive lounge.  Throughout the day, we would venture there for a complimentary snack or a drink.

There are several bars and restaurants on the premises.  There's little need to venture out if you don't want to.

I’ll admit that a pet peeve of mine is when people reserve loungers for the entire day, but then never show up.  At one point I counted about 35 empty lounges in prime spots being held with towels.   But if you have any trouble, just ask for assistance.  The pool staff were very helpful in pulling two loungers together for us and getting us an umbrella.

Our upgrade to The Level also gave us the use of a big white sunbed for one day with a complimentary fruit tray and bottle of cava.  (Be sure to reserve your sunbed ahead of time.)  There is a full spa and gym on the premises if you just aren't relaxed enough.

My only complaint is that our stay just wasn’t long enough.  About the time we started to really relax and settle in, it was time to head home.

Have you ever enjoyed a day on a big white sunbed?

We booked our stay at MeliĆ” de Mar as part of a package.
Our upgrade to The Level was complimentary for the purposes of review.

Weekend in Majorca

It’s a well-known misconception that it rains constantly in London.
It does rain, usually a light, misty drizzle.   But, not nearly as much as popular culture would have you believe.

Admittedly, the nice weather was late in coming this year.  But once spring strolled in,
then summer arrived and slid nicely into autumn, we have had some pretty terrific weather.
Sunny, blue skies with mild temperatures, perfect for getting out and enjoying the outdoors.

But winter is certainly on her way.  In our pre-emptive efforts to stock pile the Vitamin D,
we took the opportunity of a bank holiday weekend to fly somewhere even warmer,
the beautiful Mediterranean island of Majorca.

Cocktails are always better with an umbrella, don’t you think?
This photo was a complete accident, but I just love it!

Majorca City Break

I should be showing you dozens of photos of this lovely island, but I can’t.
In fact this one of the moped is the only one I'll show you.

We pretty much just parked our backsides at the hotel pool and didn’t venture much further.  It was just what we needed.

Matthew did leave the pool long enough to swim in the Med for a bit.

For our weekend getaways, we usually fly out after work on Friday night so arrive after dark.  One of my favorite things is hopping out of bed on Saturday morning and drawing back the curtains on our new destination.   Majorca didn’t disappoint.
I was presented with the most glorious sunrise.  Breathtaking.

We found a great rate on an EasyJet flight & hotel combo.
I’ll tell you a little more about the hotel in my next post.

Where do you go for Vitamin D?

#LDNBloggersTea at the Conrad London St. James

About a year ago, I decided to plan an afternoon tea for bloggers and hatched the #LDNBloggersTea.
We’ve now enjoyed four quarterly teas at some of London’s nicest hotels and interest in the event continues to grow.
Each time there are familiar faces as well as new faces, but we all have the connection
of putting a piece of ourselves on the internet.
It’s a fabulous group of bloggers from all over the world blogging about a variety of topics.

Conrad London St. James #LDNBloggersTea

Our most recent #LDNBloggersTea was at the Conrad London St. James
(previously the Intercontinental Westminster). It’s a gorgeous, lush hotel
located in the heart of London. We were lucky enough to get a preview of their
upcoming holiday tea, the Christmas Snow Scene.

Somehow they’ve managed to take a traditional Christmas dinner and put it onto a tea stand.
They really outdid themselves on the savoury course.
Here’s the menu (but you have to imagine Christmas melodies from a harp playing
in the background and a glass of champagne in your hand).

Brussel sprout salad
(everyone raved about this brussel spout & goats cheese mousse)
Turkey ballotine

Cured gammon & mustard
Beetroot & spinach

Freshly Baked Orange & Cranberry Christmas Spice Scones
Served with Devonshire clotted cream, home-made strawberry jam and blackberry curd
(very generous with the cream!)

We each had our own selection of tea served in a large silver pot to get us through the afternoon.
Then came the piĆØce de rĆ©sistance, the magical snow scene served under a pane of frosted glass.

Pastry Chef Zoe came around to explain each of the sweet creations.
It’s obvious they really put their hearts into this menu.

It was a delight and we were reluctant to mess it up, but quickly overcame that reluctance
as we tasted treat after treat. My favorite was the Yule Log, soft and sweet.
The Winter Berry Christmas Tree was a real surprise, a tangy berry mouse
with a sweet chocolate brownie.

It was absolutely magical.  Between the creative and tasty menu, the attentive and friendly service, the beautiful setting of Emmaline’s and the interesting and exciting company it was the perfect afternoon. If you want to treat someone to a very special tea experience in London this holiday season, this is the perfect choice.

The Christmas Snow Scene runs from November 24th to Christmas Eve and is £37 or £45 if you’d like to add free-flowing Laurent-Perrier champagne. Yes, please.

If you are interested in attending a future #LDNBloggersTea, don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’ve passed the torch to Melanie from Sunny in London who will be planning future events. But, you will definitely see me there. I can’t wait for the next one!
