Our little island in Provence

I'm finally getting around to editing the thousands of photos from my
girls' trip to Provence with Erin, Gina and Sarah.

I probably should just condense it all down to a few posts, but I just can't.
It was absolutely perfect.  Relaxing and wonderful.
I want to savor it and remember every bit of it.
Full of laughter and sweet moments.

I love these girls dearly.

First, let me tell your about our island.
Île de la Barthelasse is an island just outside the city of Avignon in the river Rhone.
It's one of the largest river islands in Europe and was our own little paradise.

We traveled to Provence by train and I was a little nervous at our decision not to
rent a car once we got there.  But it was the best decision.
Sure, it meant a few taxi rides.  But it also meant some lovely country walks.

The dappled sunlight shining through the trees.
Telling stories, sharing secrets and laughing so hard we cried.
Singing at the top of our lungs as we walked down the middle of the road.

It brought me straight back to my childhood, time spent with sweet friends and cousins.
Country walks with not a sound but the music of the insects or the random bark of a dog.
Following a trail and having no idea where it might end.

Not a care in the world.  No reason to rush or worry.
Plenty of time to stop and enjoy the sunset over gorgeous Provence.

This is now my happy place.

What travel experience takes you back to your childhood?

Erin has already started writing about our trip and is way ahead of me.

  2. ...Lovely--nicely done, as usual!!...

I don't know if I can think of a SPECIFIC travel experience, but every time I'm somewhere with a lot of deciduous trees, it makes me think of N.C. (where I'm from), :-)...

  3. I adore Provence. I have so many fond memories. My sister's husband's family has a house there and I used to love visiting.
