The Colors of Mykonos

Oh, the debate I had with myself over the title of this blog post.  My readership is pretty much evenly split between the US and UK (with about 10% various other countries).  So...  do I use the American spelling "colors" and let half of you think I just can't spell.  Or do I use "colours" and risk the other half think I'm a wannabe Brit who will next start speaking with a fake British accent like Madonna.  Dilemma. Anywho,  I posted before about all of the reds of Mykonos.  Here are some more photos of this beautiful place sorted by color colour... err chromaticity.

Girlfriend Getaway in Mykonos, Greece

Gina and I still talk about our last Girls' Trip.  A few years ago we had an incredible time in Provence with Erin and Sarah (miss you!).  Matt gives me the side eye when I still declare it the "best trip ever."  We've been talking about doing another trip since then.  But you know how it is... you keep talking about it but then it doesn't actually happen.  Life gets in the way.   The only way to get around that is to just book the trip!  So we did.  We booked a long weekend in Mykonos, Greece.  Guess what?  "Best Trip Ever!"

Everything's Rosé in Mykonos

Galileo eloquently stated that "Wine is sunlight, held together by water."   My girls' weekend in Mykonos, Greece with Gina was all about sunlight, water and wine.  The cycladic architecture of the Greek Islands features the iconic white-washed cube houses with dominant azure blue accents, all against the backdrop of the turquoise sea.  But while editing my photos another color also popped out of many of the scenes.    The deep rose color of the wine that we shared over our four day escape.

Pont & Palais in Provence

Alas, all good things must come to an end.  Say it with me...  Awwwww.
This is my last post from our fantastic-wonderful-best-trip-ever to Provence with my sweet friends.
Matt gets a bit offended when I say it was the best trip ever, so I should clarify.
Fantastic-wonderful-best-trip-ever-without-Matt.

Our last day we spent exploring Avignon a little more in depth.

Avignon, France Provence

Avignon, France Provence

We visited the Pont d'Avignon which is a bridge that used to span the river to our little island.
Legend has it that a young shepherd boy was tending his flock when God
spoke to him and told him to follow that star... no wait.  That's a different story.

Avignon, France Provence

This shepherd boy was told to build a bridge over the River Rhone.
When he shared his inspired plan with the townspeople they just laughed an called him names.
They never let poor... no wait.  Wrong story again.
Young Bénézet then lifted a huge boulder and tossed it into the river.
Suddenly they were all on board with the whole bridge idea.
I think the poor lad died before the bridge was completed.
He's buried in a little chapel on the bridge.

Avignon, France Provence

We used the audio guides which told us the history of the bridge and played the famous song.
The bridge doesn't actually span the river anymore.  Only four of the original 22 arches are left.
So it was a quick tour.

We then made our way to the Palais des Papes.
This was were I took my very favorite photograph.

This time we opted out of the audio-guide.
And I'll be perfectly honest with you, we pretty much just buzzed through.
We were eager to gather once more around a bottle of rosé
to talk about guys and shoes and world hunger and stuff.
But, mostly shoes.

I think I will forever be gushing about Provence.
But what made the whole thing the fantastic-wonderful-best-trip-ever
was most certainly the company.
Thank you, Gina, Sarah and Erin.  Miss you like crazy and love you to pieces!

Have you ever traveled with just the girls? Best trip ever?

Aix En Provence

Nope, still haven't found my rhythm or mojo or whatever you wanna call it.
So, here are some photos of Aix en Provence from that amazing girls trip that I can't stop going on about.
I've previously written about Aix.  It's one of the most photogenic cities I've ever seen.

L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue Market

I'm really hoping that there are at least one or two of you
who've texted your girlfriends and exclaimed "We're going to Provence!"
So, this is what you must to do on Sunday in Provence.

Hop on a train and visit the L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue Market.
Its just a short journey from Avignon and a perfect way to spend the day.

Each Sunday the town is taken over by the largest outdoor market in the Luberon area of Provence.
The backdrop of the Sorgue River and several moss covered waterwheels,
amidst a massive food, antique and flea market.
Not to mention cafes, shops and restaurants.  It's all of Provence laid out before you.
Food, wine, bread, olive oil, antiques, cheese, textiles, architecture.  Seriously wonderful.

Even a bit of rain couldn't put a damper on this day, although there was one slight altercation.
I mentioned that we walked out of one French restaurant in Avignon.
In Sorgue, we were actually asked to leave a restaurant!

It was time for lunch so we found a restaurant, sat down, ordered wine (priorities)
and began perusing the menu.  About the time the waitress slammed the closed bottle
down onto the table and walked away, we started to question our choice.
We opened the wine and poured (again, priorities),
only to realize that the menu wasn't going to work for a variety of reasons.

We eventually got the attention of the waitress to let her know
that we weren't going to be eating after all.  Major faux pas.
We weren't welcome unless we were going to eat.
Sharing a plate of fries between us was also not an option.

We asked if we could at least finish our wine before leaving which led to a visit
from the big burly chef who encouraged our immediate departure.

We all stood up and grabbed our glasses.
You've never seen four women chug down a bottle of wine so fast.
This was followed by 45 minutes of giggling (remember, we hadn't eaten yet)
as we searched for another dining option.

Can't take these girls anywhere.  Trouble in Provence.

Thankfully, Gina is fluent in French or there is no telling how it would have played out.
It actually turned out for the best, because we ended up sitting outside and having the
most wonderful crepes for about half the price.

Not to mention a titch more wine.  This time enjoyed at a much more leisurely pace.
And sitting down.

I realize that this post has a ridiculous number of photos,
but seriously, Provence is just gorgeous.  I can't help myself.

Throughout our day at the market, we each purchased a bit of food.
Cheese, baguettes, fruit, meats, spreads, sweets and wine.
We ended our day with a massive feast under the stars back at our B&B.
Perfection.

So, there's your Sunday in Provence sorted.

Have you been kicked out of a restaurant before?
