Welcome, Sweet Grandson!!

I'm back in London and if you follow along on Instagram you know that I'm now Gigi to the most beautiful little boy that ever was!  Welcome to the world, Michael!

I spent the most amazing five weeks back home in Texas.  The first few weeks were spent trying to distract Jessica during those last tough weeks of pregnancy.  I'm so blessed to have spent that extra time with her before the baby came.  I couldn't keep my hands off her belly.  We had such a great time.

Then one morning I got the call, time to head to the hospital.  It was a long labor, but after 19 hours and 90 minutes of pushing, little Michael was born.  Happy and healthy at 8lbs3oz and 20.5 inches long.  Life will never bet the same for any of us.  Jessica was an absolute rockstar throughout, calm and focused.  I've never seen anything like it and I'm so proud of her.  Johnny was by her side every second.

But we quickly realized that while her baby was doing great, my baby was in some trouble.  Postpartum hemorrhaging happens in about 5% of births and is a major threat for a new mother.  She was quickly rushed to surgery where they stopped the bleeding.  They took wonderful care of her and she was finally able to cuddle her sweet boy about three hours after he was born.  And she hasn't stopped since.

It was the wonderful and terrifying experience.  It's three weeks later and everyone is thriving.  The new family of three are getting acquainted and enjoying all the new little milestones.  Matt and I are back in London and yes, getting on that plane was the hardest thing I've ever done.

I message with Jessica every day and have regular FaceTime sessions.  Little Michael follows my face with his eyes.  I think he misses me.  We're planning another trip home some time in the next few months.  I can't wait to get my hands on that little nugget.  He looks in my eyes like he's trying to tell me something very special. I fall even more madly in love with him every time.  There really aren't words to describe what it feels like to be a grandma.

Thank you, Jessica for making me a mother and now a grandmother.  I love you more than chocolate!!  We will see you very soon!!
