The Jamie Oliver Cookery School

I've been missing London so much.  Surrey is lovely but I haven't yet found my groove here.  When we received an invitation from The Jamie Oliver Cookery School in Shepherd's Bush, we jumped at the chance for a date night in London.  The Cookery School is located at the Jamie's Italian Restaurant in the Westfield Mall.  So we jumped on the train and made our way into London for the evening

There is a large dedicated space in the back of the restaurant for the cookery school.  There are two spacious cooking areas and a dining room so that you can sit and enjoy your meal after the class.  We were greeted warmly with a glass of Prosecco and an apron.

Each station was meticulously set up for the class. We had everything that we needed right at our fingertips.

We were cooking as a pair under the "bring a mate" special so things were a bit cozy.  If you want to have a little more room, try to get one of the stations on the end or just book the class as a single and have the whole station to yourself.

We chose the Taste of Japan class which included pork stuffed gyoza, sticky teriyaki chicken, rice, pan-fried veggies, ponzu dipping sauce and tofu miso soup.  The class was two hours and we had a lot to do, so we jumped right in.

Our chef instructor was personable and obviously knew his stuff.  He would give us a demonstration and then send us back to our stations to try it on our own. He was always available for a little extra guidance.

Because of the time constraints the the dough and filling for the gyoza were made in advance, we just put them together and cooked them.  Matt and I can be pretty competitive, so there a lot of back and forth about whose were better. Mine, obviously.

Throughout the class the chef gave us tips and pointers to use at home. The class was very casual and had a fun atmosphere.  There were some pairs that were high achievers and got everything perfect.

There were others that were having a bit more fun and not paying attention.  The chef had to so a little damage control on a few of the dishes.

I loved that we got to try our hand at everything at our own little station.  If only cooking at home was like this, all the of the best equipment and everything laid out perfectly at your fingertips.

The two hours flew by and then we all sat down to enjoy our feast.  A great date night in London. By the time we arrived home, an email including all of the recipes was in my inbox.  Now to try this at home.
